CIQ HISTORY

In March of 1986 a small group of women founded the Camano Island Quilters Guild. The goals of the founding members were to bring quilters together to share their skills, knowledge and inspirations and in so doing, to celebrate their passion for quilts. The group has grown to include a much larger geographical region, including Stanwood, Arlington, Mt Vernon and Marysville.

Camano Island Quilters is a  501(c)(3) non-profit group of individuals organized for the purpose of educating its members in all forms of quilting and fiber arts by meeting together monthly, providing classes and opportunities for sharing our love of quilting together.

CIQ's community outreach includes comfort quilts for the special needs children at Providence Hospital Children's Center and their families; as well as preemie quilts and hats for premature babies in the newborn intensive care unit.   The guild supports Friendship House in Mt Vernon, and the local WIC program.   We support the Pacific Northwest Fiber Arts and Quilt Museum in La Conner, Wa. as a guild partner and by actively participating in shows and support of featured artists.

CIQ provides opportunities for members to become involved with many areas of quilting including leadership positions on the board or within committees. There are Friendship groups for varied interests, including Art Quilts, Row Robin, Machine Embroidery and our own Opportunity Quilt, as well as Community Interest groups including American Hero Quilts, Cama Beach Quilters, Days for Girls and Sound Longarm Quilters. These groups are great for making friends with similar quilting interest.
